Fewer Xs on my Underwear Waistband

I chose not to mislead anyone on the subject of this blog -
it is cool if you don't want to read about my underwear
(if this is the case - just read the next two paragraphs and stop).
This is not the first time that I have dieted or lost weight.  While living abroad I lost a ton of weight due to the change of diet (strange food) and the amount of walking I did on a daily basis.  It did not take long on American soil for me to put all the weight, and then some, back.  A while ago my father-in-law challenged the entire family to give up sugar for a year.  My wife and I did that and I lost about 30 pounds.  I got back on sugar and the weight returned - and then some.

Through all the ups and downs one thing has remained constant for the most part... my fat clothes.  I would always get excited about the weight loss and go and buy new clothes but I would never rid my closet of the big clothes - and always ended up back in them.  When I returned to America my sister-in-law took me shopping for new clothes to fit my new body and I only wore one of the pair of jeans twice before they became too small (notice how it was the jeans fault).  I held on to those jeans for years hoping to wear them again but just recently gave them away.

I am much more serious about the weight loss this time and committed to making it work.  All my efforts in the past have been more passive or a result of environment - but never due to personal drive.  Wednesday night I was asked by my wife, who has been cleaning and organizing our closet, to go through a box of clothes.  I found in the box a bunch of under garments that had just a little while ago been too small (stored in a box from my last failed attempt to keep weight off).  I am smaller now than I was when I bought them so I made the decision to throw away all of my XXL undies and now have my top drawer stocked with all XL skivies.

It is weird to be writing about this but it is still very much a vicotry in this battle.  It felt great to throw all the double extra large clothes in the trash - knowing this time there is no need to hold on to them as a back up.
