Goals for 2014

Now that I have a few of those ones out of the way I really want to record my goals going forward - well one big one primarily which will help achieve some of my others.  Josh and I have decided to sign up for the Deuces Wild Triathlon in Show Low, AZ.  I realize there are some major obstacles in front of me.  This is much like 100MON where it challenges and motivates me (much more than the reverse psychology attempt of giving away a TV).

The Triathlon is in June of 2014 and consists of just under a mile swim, a 26 mile ride, and a 6 mile run (give or take - it's an Olympic distance course if that makes more sense to any of you).  Some of the obstacles include:

  • Weight - Unless I want to compete as a clydesdale I need to shed some pounds.  Also, at 300lbs (44.2% of that fat according to my Body Composition Analysis) the only thing I do fast is eat.
  • Swim - I don't know how.  Well I do, but not like a triathlete.
  • Run - I don't know how.  Well I do, but certainly not for 6.2 miles!
  • Funds - Money is tight, there is an entrance fee of $90 (as of now, it increases until race day) and I need a new pair of running shoes at minimum. I'd like to get a new jersey, buy a heart rate monitor, and rent a wet suit.
I will get more specific with my goals and how I will prepare for Deuces Wild in a future post.

Some of the family hiked to the top of Snake Hill at Patterson Pond where a time capsule was excavated and the contents shared.  In 2005 and again in 2008 those who were present wrote a note to themselves with goals for the New Year.  I was not there for the prior two times but it was fun to participate this year.
