Falling into Place

Well I managed my trip to St. Johns ok.  I did not do great but did not do bad either.  The only meal I did not stick to my diet was last night's dinner where I ate two pieces of pizza.  Other than that I did pretty good and hope it shows on Monday.  My biggest worry is that I did not get any riding in but I think I will be fine for my big 100 this coming weekend.

I want to give a little shout out to my local bike shop - Global Bikes.  I have been to their store at Guadalupe and Gilbert Roads a couple of times now (it is where I bought my bike actually) and really like them.  Today I went in to buy some shoes, cleats, and pedals for my bike, as well as pick up the bike from having its first tune up (all tune ups are free if you buy your bike from them).  I tried on several pairs of shoes, kicked around different options and ideas and finally made a decision.

The problem was that this decision was going to put me over budget by about $60.  I told them that I was trying to get out the door under a certain price and we began to kick around some more ideas.  The clerk told me he would have to check with his manager but said that there was a pair of used pedals in the back that I might be able to have for a great price.  When we went to discuss this option with the manager and crunched some numbers I was still going to come out well over my budget.  When we discovered this he told the clerk "just give him the pedals."  I was so surprised and amazed!

I left Global Bikes with pedals, cleats, shoes on order, and only went over my budget $1.67.  I am scheduled to pick up my shoes and have my pedals put on Friday followed by a professional bike fitting.  Things are shaping up quite nice for this weekend's big ride!  Special thanks to my LBS!

  1. That is terrific Jacob! I am impressed that the shop was able to help out, too. Did I mention seeing a Global Bikes vehicle out somewhere and snapping a picture of it because I recognized the name? I did...now I need to find out if it was on my camera or the lost phone. :( If I still have it I'll send it so your readers can try to identify where it was located. :)
