Connect the Dots
There are a couple of things that I really like about riding in Arizona. The weather is great, I am sure it will be bad or get worse during the summer months but I can live with it. The streets are well paved, wide, and there are a lot of bike lanes. The terrain is mostly flat (almost completely) which makes it nice for a newbie cyclist. I also really like that most the city is laid out on a grid. Each city block for the most part is a mile square. Because I don't plan many of my rides I am able to count the streets and get a good idea of how far I have gone.
Today though my counting was off. I told you all that there would be no excuses for me not completing my ride today - however - I did make a mistake in counting/calculating. I stopped at a park to do some math. By my calculations I will have completed 65 miles or so upon my return home from said park. I knew I needed to add some miles to the return trip and so I did. When all was said and done, and I had returned home, I discovered two things. I had been out an hour longer than I had planned (forgot my phone) and I had competed (according to google maps) 92 miles!! (it is hard to tell so trying to connect all the dots on the map)
I was only shooting for something between 80 and 90. Instead I had almost completed my first century on accident. I think I am going to have little or no problem completing my 100MON in two weeks!

You should try mapmyride. It is for cycling and I have used it to track my running routes. It uses Google Maps but will give you accurate mileage.
