I still feel like I can do the 100 Miles of Nowhere. I do realize that it is going to require a ton of work on my part to accomplish this though. I will be working on publishing my training schedule so I can keep myself accountable to you and my sponsors.
With that said I did have a damaging blow to my ego today. I knew I was going to take it easy today and not push my self for time or distance the day before my first 30 mile ride. I started out nice - it is such a beautiful day today - and was getting into a good, comfortable groove. I came to a red light and patiently waited for it to change and began my way through the intersection. Suddenly from nowhere a woman on a mountain bike carrying a backpack stuffed full of who knows what passed me and slowly, seemingly with little effort, increased the distance between us.
Now while I say she came from nowhere I actually know right where she came from, she almost hit me. At the intersection where I was traveling East she was going North on the intersecting street. Without stopping at her red light to make a right turn she blew through it not knowing I crossing the intersection. She had to go out into traffic to avoid colliding with me. This experience helps me to realize the improtance of following all traffic laws (like a cyclist should do) for my safety as well as the saftety of others.
All kidding and 'learning moments' aside, I could have taken her. Like I said, it was my light day today...
